Coco Ichibanya Curry House is mostly counter service with some tables
I hope you enjoyed my racist impersonation of an Indian. It was fun, but one paragraph was enough of a headache to type out with autocorrect. Time to get back to the way English is supposed to be spoken. Cherio old chap. Sit back, pour yourself a cup of tea and enjoy this review. This Coco Ichibanya had better stick to the definition of curry or I jolly well will lose my temper. Thou shalt not butcher a dish founded by the empire of the Queen. Now now, no need for pointless chatter. Grab a seat on one of those spinning cushions by the counter and place your order.
How to order and what spice level should I choose?
Coco Ichibanya is the most customizable curry house in Japan. Choose the base curry dish that suits your fancy and go crazy with toppings, amount of rice and spice level. The pictures below should give you a better glimpse of how to do this. It's rather simple.
With regards to spice level, it depends on how much you can take. Personally, I go for 6 to 8, depending on my proximity to a clean toilet. I would consider 3 and above to be a curry dish. Anything below that, would be considered stew. I hate to break it to you, but there's no such thing as mild curry. It's like saying mild storm or honest politician or healthy cup noodles. Lies I tell ya. All lies! Well, what about level 9 and 10 Honorable Rat? In my opinion, anything above level 8 is just painful to eat. I think Coco Ichibanya created level 10 to get super drunk rats out of their stores as quickly as possible. Eat at your own risk!
This dish will make you wanna come back for more!
I have a go-to dish when visiting Coco Ichibanya and it is extremely addictive. Get a pen and paper ready. You will wanna take notes for this one. Write this down. "Chicken Katsu curry with cheese and spinach topping." Now, say goodbye to your nightly slumber cause you will be craving for this in the middle of the night. Add a bunch of the pickled vegetables pictured below, mix everything up and you've got yourself one hell of a curry (or stew, depending on your spice level). Also, if you are extra hungry, get some nuggets and fries to dip into the curry. Leave no curry behind. Make sure you get every drop into your system. You'll want to delay the withdrawal symptoms for as long as you can. Don't say I didn't warn you.
