Day 4 in Shanghai: Second day in Shanghai Disneyland and the best meal of our trip! (Sept 2017 Trip Report)

Our last day in Shanghai Disneyland

So, here we are. About a year since the last post on this Shanghai September 2017 trip report series. Well, you know what they say. Better late than never! And don't worry about me delaying the next post cause well, this is the last post of the series. For the last day of our September 2017 trip to Shanghai Disneyland, our first stop... stroller rental!

It's important to fill that tummy before any Disney adventure

Thinking of exploring Disney with an empty stomach? No no no no no. That would be a disaster. So, we strapped the Honorable Kids into their strollers and pushed their lazy asses to Remy's Patisserie to fuel up before venturing out to explore more of this massive theme park.

Where's Spiderman at?

After breakfast at our distant cousin's joint, we decided to go pay a visit to Spiderman at Marvel Universe. It was our first time meeting Spiderman and I must say, Spiderman looked like he needed to hit the gym. I am willing to put my money down and bet that behind that costume is a man who has never worked out a day in his life. How do I know? Well let's just say, it takes one to know one.

The character meetings continue... and more!

Next up, we paid Baymax a visit. From a malnutritioned, skinny character to a well fed one. After meeting Baymax, we went on Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue. I really enjoyed this attraction. It’s a more technologically advanced version of Tokyo Disneyland’s Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters. I’ll definitely get on this again if I visit Shanghai Disneyland again in the future. I can’t say the same for Tron though. It did a Star Tours on me. It stirred up my motion sickness real good. It’s a shame though. If not for the motion sickness, Tron would have easily been one of my favorite attraction in any Disney Park.

In a galaxy far far away

Noon was fast approaching and it was getting really humid, so we escaped into the air-conditioned Star Wars Launch Bay. I wasn’t expecting much, but was pleasantly surprised. There were loads of picture opportunities and an area in which kids can build stuff using LEGO blocks while old farts like me can rest our weary feet. A great place to escape from the heat and the crowd.

Lunch time

For lunch, we went to Tangled Tree Tavern. Throughout this trip, my favorite dish in Shanghai Disneyland can be found here. If you are okay with spicy food, you gotta give the Tangled’s Spicy Chicken a go. It definitely hit the spot for me. Got me reenergized from all that sitting around and resting at Star Wars Launch Bay.  Every dish that we tried at Tangled Tree Tavern was good, but seriously, if you are okay with spicy food, go with the Spicy Chicken! It was really good!

A detour from the rain

After our magnificent meal at Tangled Tree Tavern, we were gonna walk around and enjoy the attractions in the area, but it started raining. We detoured and took shelter in the Frozen: A Sing Along show building. Our timing could not have been better as we were lucky enough to waltz into it just before showtime. Ratketeer, I’ve gotta be honest. This show sucked. It was terrible. I used the word “lucky” because we could escape from the rain and I could take a nap in one of the theater’s comfortable chairs. The show itself was really cheap. It was just a big screen with a ball jumping around words in which the crowd sings to. If you are looking to take a nap, this is the perfect place. Your body will force you to sleep from such subpar entertainment.

Rain rain go away, come again another day

Rain rain go away, come again another day

The rain kept coming, so we did what any normal Rat would do...

We went to the closest restaurant that we haven’t been to before, which happened to be Pinocchio Village Kitchen, sat down and ate again! Here, we ordered coffee and the infamous Peking Duck Pizza. I would not recommend anyone to order coffee at Shanghai Disneyland. For 15 yuan, you get an empty cup and a packet of instant coffee. You’ll have to go to one of the hot water dispensers which they have in most restaurants and make the coffee yourself. If I had known this before, I would have just brought in instant coffee from the outside, sneaky Rat style. The Peking Duck Pizza was pretty cool though. In a weird way, it worked. I mean, I prefer the more traditional pepperoni and cheese on my pizza, but somehow this fusion worked. Definitely better than Japanese style pizza. Anyone up for potato, corn, broccoli, tuna and mayonnaise on pizza? Trust me, duck is better. In total, we spent close to three hours in here as it was really starting to pour outside. I was treated to a show that was much better than the Frozen show we saw before. Ratketeer, I present to you... Baby Haku and Grandpa Rat in a duel as I eat Peking Duck Pizza. The rain ended and we were welcomed by nightfall

All that premium entertainment from Baby Haku and Grandpa Rat got the time flying and when we exited Pinocchio Village Kitchen, it was already night. To end our last day at Shanghai Disneyland, we went to pay the boss, Mickey Mouse, a visit and enjoyed the nighttime fireworks show.

Dinner time! What?! More food?!

Well, it was raining for most of the day and we had to find shelter. After that amazing Frozen: A Sing-Along Celebration show, I’d take my chances with seeking refuge in restaurants over shows in Shanghai Disneyland on any given day. So, blame the rain and the brilliant Frozen show for the abundance of food in this post. The best is yet to come though. Ratketeer, for dinner, the Rat family left the park and went to the nearby Disneytown to experience the best meal we had in our WHOLE trip. You must visit Xin Wang when you visit Shanghai Disneyland. You MUST!

The Rat family part ways: Till we meet again

After dinner, we took a few family photos in the LEGO store nearby and called it a night. I was feeling pretty sad cause I was gonna say goodbye to my sisters, Mum and Dad. Overall, this was a great trip and I will definitely visit Shanghai Disneyland again, the best Disneyland in the world. There’s nothing like visiting the best Disneyland in the world with the best people in the world. A big thank you to the SG Rats for this trip!
