Every week, for one day, wife-chan and I would take the kids to Lawson. There's a Lawson about 15 minutes away from my place by foot. It's become a ritual for the Rat family and a chance for us to spend some simple, quality time together. We have three convenience stores near our place. Lawson, 7-11 and Family Mart, but Lawson is where we always end up. We always end up in Lawson because it's the only convenience store with seats and the kids love the Karaage-kun they sell.
Karaage-kun is basically chicken nuggets. A pack of 5 chicken nuggets that comes in 4 different flavors. They have original, cheese, red (spicy) and seasonal. A pack goes for 216 yen. Little Mahina and Baby Haku love the Cheese Karaage-kun, so that's our normal go-to flavor on our weekly Lawson runs.
Karaage-kun's skin is less crispy than Famima Chicken's. It has a totally different dimension when it comes to texture, but it's just good, if not better. Karaage-kun's skin is really light and easy to bite into. You could actually peel the skin off easily. With Famima Chicken, a majority of what you will eat is chicken skin and fat. With Karaage-kun however, it's all meat that's really tender and juicy. Not too oily and at the same time, not too dry. The perfect amount of moisture as sink your teeth in. With the added flavor of cheese, this snack is definitely one of the best snacks you can find in all convenience stores. Affordable, delicious and unlike the Famima Chicken, you won't die of a heart attack from regular consumption of these. Also, Cheese Karaage-kun is endorsed by Little Mahina and Baby Haku! How can you go wrong with children endorsing something? You can't! Look at Trump!
