I love "eat while you walk" food. Every culture has it's own version of "eat while you walk" food. In Japan, there's the onigiri. In Singapore, there's the curry puff. It seems like The United States of America has perfected "eat while you walk" food. Americans have a lot to choose from when it comes to portable food. Hot Dogs, slices of pizza, sandwiches, the works. It has become a big part of food culture. It's become so big that food trucks are sprouting up like weeds across America. I love food trucks. That's my favorite reason to visit The U.S.A. One of my dreams is to travel across the U.S.A, eating from only food trucks, in my food truck. Out of all the types of food being served up in food trucks, my favorite would have to be sandwiches. Nothing beats a good sandwich. A sandwich can become anything you want it to be. It can be Asian, European, American, meaty, vegetarian, spicy, sweet... Anything!
New York Deli serves up sandwiches. You can find this restaurant in American Waterfront in DisneySea. Just like everything else in Tokyo DisneySea, New York Deli is beautifully themed. Dining in it will make you feel like you're in, well.... as the name suggests.... New York, or at least my perspective of what New York looks like. My perspective is based on Mob movies that I've watched when I was a very young rat. And yes, my parents didn't stop me from watching those movies as a child. I don't understand all this censorship nonsense. I grew up watching Mob movies and look at me now. I am a fully grown, responsible, respectable, thrifty, always hungry rat. Thank you Mum and Dad. You raised me up right. Non of that new age parenting handbook rubbish.
As you can see from the picture above, it's quite affordable (Disney-wise) to get a meal in New York Deli. You could get a meal for less than 1,000 yen. Aside from sandwiches, New York Deli also serves up soup, salad and desserts. I've never tried the Deli Salad and the desserts, but I can tell you that everything else is worth the money except for the Hearty Chicken and Vegetable soup. That's just a ripoff. Don't waste your money on that. Get some French Fries with that money. Carb it up. You'll need that energy for your adventure in Tokyo DisneySea.
Now that I'm done bitching about the Hearty Chicken and Vegetable Soup, I'm ready to let you in on a secret. Sssssshhhhhh, you have to promise not to tell anyone. I've kept this information a secret for a long long time and I can't take it anymore. Ratketeers, honestly, I'm not a rat..... Muahahahahaha!!! That scared you, didn't it. I was just joking. Don't get all stressed up. I'm a rat. You don't have to worry about that. Okay, time for me to share this million dollar information with you. One of my favorite food items in all of Tokyo Disney is being served up here! Get that notepad out Ratketeers!
Sorry, you can put that notepad aside for a few minutes. That bit of information will have to wait. Don't you hate it when someone asks you to do something and keeps you hanging. You prepared for something based on this person's command and he or she just takes their own sweet time doing other stuff. That's just selfish! Apologies for that, but for now, I'd like to give you some information on the seating arrangements in New York Deli. New York Deli has loads of seating, but this restaurant is often packed. Maybe, it's because of the amount of rats that New York has. I don't know the real reason behind this phenomenon. Oh wait! I do! This place serves up good food, so do plan your meal time accordingly. Try to escape the lunch and dinnertime crowd. Also, if you have a huge party and would like to depict Jesus's last supper, there's a table for that.
As I've mentioned earlier, the sandwiches served up in New York Deli are good. The only food item that you should stay away from in the menu is the Hearty Chicken and Vegetable Soup. Look at the picture below. Does that look like it's worth 300 yen?! I know that it's tough to see from the picture, but in my humble opinion, it's not. There were minimal pieces of chicken in the soup and it was just too small. 3 gulps is all you need to finish that up. 100 yen per gulp!
For vegetarian rats, the Ratatouille Salad, French Fries and desserts are the only food items on the menu that you can devour. If you're a vegetarian and your party consists of meat eaters, you cannot stop them from coming to this restaurant. You have to allow for them to try the sandwiches here. You have to allow them the pleasure of dining here, but don't you worry. Here's something you could do. Trick them into getting the Hearty Chicken and Vegetable Soup, chew on your Ratatouille Salad with delight and laugh at them. Laugh at your meat eating friends and don't share your Ratatouille Salad with them. I can assure you that you will get the better part of the deal. When they are ready to eat their sandwich, run away. Go on Tower of Terror or something. Leave the table with your head held high cause you won't wanna look at their orgasmic faces when their dining on the sandwiches....
..... especially, this one. The Grilled Reuben. This is definitely in my "Must-Try Tokyo Disney Food" list.
