I have a confession to make. I love food. That's one of the reasons why Vegas is one of my favorite places to travel to. Buffets, celebrity chef restaurants and family owned joints where I can stuff my round face with good food. A culinary adventure. There's something for everyone in Vegas. I travel for food. Tell me a place with good food and I'm there. I always look for value. Good food at a great price.
There are many dining options in Tokyo Disney. Some are well worth the money like Ristorante Di Canaletto, Dreamer's Lounge and Grandma Sara's Kitchen. Some just don't provide value for money like the Character Breakfast at Crystal Palace Restaurant, Miguel's El Dorado Cantina and Plaza Restaurant. How will Oceano fare? With that price, it had better knock my socks off.
As soon as I walked into the restaurant, I felt good. I'm more of a shorts and T-shirt guy. There's nothing I love more than to go to a Singaporean hawker center in my singlet, shorts and flip-flops, but once in a while, visiting a classy restaurant is nice. That's exactly what Oceano is. It's atmosphere will make you feel like an underwater Prince or Princess. If you don't know what it's like to be an underwater royal, you should walk into this restaurant and chill for a bit. Take a deep breath and walk out. Don't worry about oxygen. They've designed the place in a way that you can breathe. It's classy, but it doesn't feel snobbish at all. You don't have to drink your tea here with your pinky out.
And so, the feasting begins. For round one of my adventure in Oceano, I tried some of Oceano's salads, breads and those fancy things in the fancy glassware. I don't know about you, but when I pay good money for a buffet, bread is the last thing that I'd go for. It fills me up and leaves little space in my stomach for all the other more important meat dishes and dessert. However, I'm running a blog, so I felt obligated to try everything. Sometimes, I'm amazed by the sacrifices that I do to keep you guys informed. I should get knighted for this. Okay, that's a little too much. A simple thank you will suffice. You can thank me for my sacrifice by leaving a comment at the end of the blog post.
My recommendation would be to skip the pastries. The bread tasted like, well... bread. If you want bread, head to the bakery. On the other hand, those things in the fancy glassware were really good. My personal favorite was the Smoked Scallop in White Asparagus Mousse. It tasted like a piece of heaven. Round one's winner goes to that dish.
For round two, we explore the main dishes. Meat, meat, meat. That's exactly what I go for in a buffet. I'm like a lion in the jungle. Prowling the vicinity for delicious meat. First, let me give you my recommendations on what not to try in this section of the buffet. Stay away from the Paella and the Pasta with Sakura Shrimp and Tomato Cream Sauce. They were not good at all. One word could be used to describe those dishes. Dry.
I really liked the Roasted Chicken and the Tomato-Braised Lamb. Those dishes are exactly the kind of dishes that you would want to devour in a buffet. It made this lion really happy, but there was one more dish that brought out the animal in me. The Roasted Yamayuri Pork with Olive Crust was spectacular. I had four servings of that. I wanted to hold it up high, on top of a cliff and sing Circle of Life. It was the clear winner for round two.
Round three of my hunt was the highlight of Oceano. I have to admit. I have a sweet tooth. Wait, let me rephrase that. I have sweet teeth. I love desserts! Oceano did an amazing job here. Everything, I mean everything was perfect. It was the main cause of me putting on quite a bit of kgs for this trip to Tokyo Disney.
The Souffle Cheesecake was light and fluffy. The Espresso Chocolate Cake teased my tongue with pure chocolaty delight. The Lemon Meringue Pie provided that zing and the crust's texture was a delight to bite into. My daughter, Mahina, ate so much ice cream that she said "No" for the first time ever to ice cream when I offered her more. Everything, I mean everything was good.
Within a crowd of super tasty desserts, there was one that was so special that it managed to stand out. This dessert put a big smile on my face. This dessert made me wanna get up and dance. This dessert welcomed me with open arms and made me feel that it was okay to pig out. I had three servings of this bad boy, even after my stomach told me, "Hayatt, you've had too much. Time for your nap." The deserved winner of round three. In fact, the deserved winner of the whole buffet goes to the Sour Cream Berry Tart. This dessert was the perfect ending to a wonderful dining experience.
So, how did Oceano fare? Well, in summary, the Smoked Scallop in White Asparagus Mousse removed one of my socks. The Roasted Yamayuri Pork with Olive Crust removed the other one and the Sour Cream Berry Tart rubbed my belly and sang me a beautiful lullaby leading me to one of the best naps that I've ever had in my life. Oceano, I'll definitely see you again.
