The weather was getting cold and this rat was looking for a place to take refuge. I had just gone on Pirates of the Caribbean and was getting hungry. Cold and hungry. That's not a good combination. I looked into my wallet and realized that my funds were running low, so Blue Bayou was out of the question. Almost every other dining establishment in Adventureland had no indoor seating. So, I opened up the Tokyo Disneyland map for the first time in a long time and decided to look for a restaurant with indoor seating. It's amazing that after visiting the park so many times, there's still so much that I haven't done. Plaza Pavilion was close-by and I've never dined there before. Indoor seating, new experience and close-by. It was an easy decision to make.
I've seen Plaza Pavilion many times before, but have never dined in it. After looking at the menu, I remembered why. It's a charming restaurant, especially at night with it's lighting and all, but the food on the menu does not sound appetizing and it's not exactly cheap. I was standing at the entrance, rethinking my decision to dine here and decided to go for it. Being Honorable Rat, I would have to try dining here sooner or later, so it might as well be sooner. I walked into the restaurant for the first time in my life and joined the line to get my dinner.
Plaza Pavilion is a counter service restaurant. You join a line, get your food and find an empty table. From the outside, this looks like a big restaurant, but surprisingly, there were not many tables in it. There's quite a bit of outdoor seating, but I wasn't going to brave the cold. I was trying to escape from it! Trying to get a seat inside was quite difficult. I had to wait a bit for an empty table, so I did what any Singaporean Rat would do. I got my food, stood by a table and tried to make the situation as uncomfortable as possible for the people eating at the table.
After waiting for a bit, I finally got myself a table and got started with my food. I had the Fried Prawns and Halloween Special Set. The food was not bad. Nothing special. The first thing that came into my mind when chewing my food was Gusto. Gusto is what the Japanese would call a "Family Restaurant". There's an abundance of "Family Restaurants" here in Japan. Basically, a "Family Restaurant" is a chain restaurant where you can fill your tummy up with affordable food. Sadly, Gusto is on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to "Family Restaurants".
After my meal, I made a decision. No matter how cold it gets, I will never ever step foot into Plaza Pavilion again. I cannot find anything good to say about this restaurant. Zero value for money. Way too overpriced. I paid 1,130 yen for the Fried Prawns and that didn't even come with bread or rice. If I wanted rice or bread, I would have to pay an extra 210 yen. That's just ridiculous. Why am I paying so much money for food that I can find for cheap? Stay away, Ratketeers. There are many other places in Tokyo Disney that serve up better food and provide better value. I would rather get frostbite than dine here again. A big waste of money!
