Ever wanted to have Chinese cuisine in a man made volcano? Now you can! Through the magic of Disney Imagineering, your dreams can all come true. Vulcania restaurant is a buffeteria style restaurant, much like The Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall, nestled within Mount Prometheus. The restaurant has an outdoor dining area and an indoor one. I much prefer the outdoor sitting area as there is more to see when I am having my meal. One could people watch while dining on a plate of fried rice or you could even enjoy the occasional eruption of Mount Prometheus while you are stuffing your mouth with shrimp. Shrimp and volcano eruptions are the way to go. It`s the in thing nowadays. Indoors, the atmosphere is dark and mysterious. If your dream was to ever have a meal in a cave, the indoor seating is definitely for you. Either ways, the food in Vulcania restaurant is not bad. Not a bad place to go grab a bite and rest your weary feet.
We ordered 2 of the Vulcania specials. We mixed it up and got a plate of Fried Rice, Fried Chicken with Soy Vinegar Sauce and a soup for one of the specials and a plate of Chilled Noodles, Shrimp with Chili Sauce and Dim Sum for the other. I really enjoyed the Fried Chicken, Shrimp with Chili Sauce and the Chilled Noodles. Those dishes were really tasty. The Dim Sum was not that great and the Fried Rice was a little dry.
On a side note, I have yet to find a good place in Japan that serves up great Dim Sum. If an establishment gives me mustard with my Dim Sum, I already know that the Dim Sum is not gonna be good. Vulcania Restaurant does this. WHO SERVES MUSTARD WITH DIM SUM!? Where's my chili sauce?! DISASTER! .......
Ok, I'm better now. I went downstairs to have a warm glass of tea. Sorry about that outburst. I apologize...... BUT SERIOUSLY! MUSTARD AND DIM SUM!?
Now, that I`m done with my fit, let's continue with this review. I like the atmosphere of this restaurant and it is a great place to cool down from the unforgiving summer heat. The food is hit or miss though. Some dishes were really good and some were horrid. If you are really craving for Chinese food, I suggest heading to nearby Ikspiari. There`s a Chinese restaurant called Bat Palace in Ikspiari that's more value for money. If you would rather stay in the park, Vulcania is not a bad place to rest your feet and have some good Chinese food. Just don`t order the Dim Sum.
